My fashion choices elicited a warning.
Having been bombarded by news about how Twitter and Meta have been censoring many people who live in the public eye, I’ve tuned it out for my mental health.
Until today.
This morning I opened my E-mail to find a series of warnings from Pinterest.
They decided that some of my fashion choices violated their user agreement, so they deleted my pins. Then another E-mail about how they had reconsidered and reposted my pins. Then another e-mail instructed me to review all my boards and ensure that none of my pins violated their policies.
All this happened without input from me.
I understand that Pinterest can do whatever they like — it’s their company.
But if you’re like me, the idea of trying to guess what exactly violates a very long policy across many, many pins is silly.
Besides, I just repin pins from people who have already pinned them on their own boards. I don’t need to look for new pins because there are already many good ones available on Pinterest.
Are the people who originally pinned the pins getting spammed by Pinterest too?
But more importantly, should any social media company judge anyone’s fashion choices?
As a private company, they can. But should they?
